Thanks to the eruption of an Icelandic volcano, a brief visit to my old friend Edurne Pérez de Pipaón in the Basque capital of Vitoria became a lengthy and very enjoyable stay. Not only was I subjected to the finest cuisine and beautiful sites of Vitoria, but fantastic sidetrips were made to the nearby countryside and to neighboring Rioja province. Thanks Eyjafjallajökull!

Welcomed as family by the clan of my good friend Ezequiel Jiménez Fernández, I was provided a unique experience of Andalucian culture. Two weeks were split between loafing around the tiny town of la Puebla de Cazalla, exploring Sevilla, and a brief visit to my one-time home of Granada.
