Santa Cruz & the Santa Cruz Mountains
After several years working in residential and commercial landscaping, and many more studying and training in permaculture and other ecological design approaches, I’m excited to launch Zeya’s Garden & Home Care in 2026, serving clients throughout the greater Santa Cruz area.
Home is where the heart is, and I am happy to assist clients with a broad range of needs from regular garden maintenance, seasonal cleanups and hauling, design and installation of new garden systems, or a variety of home improvement projects ranging from raised beds to decks to water features.
Whether you’re looking for ongoing help keeping your garden thriving, just need a hand getting things back into shape, or have an ambitious project you’ve been daydreaming about, I’d be happy to help.
Permaculture & Ecological Design: Drawing on many years of study and training in permaculture and related ecological design methods, I can help clients develop more productive, sustainable, and resilient landscapes. Projects might include food forests and edible gardens, composting and soil-building systems, rainwater harvesting, greywater reuse, swales and berms, greenhouses and cold frames, habitat gardens, and other systems designed to make better use of the natural resources available on your property.
Earthen & Natural Building: In addition to conventional construction I have rich experience in and a passion for earthen building modalities. Please reach out to discuss if interested in cob, adobe, light straw clay and straw bale or earth bag construction.
Services Offered
Regular Garden Maintenance: Whether weekly, monthly or seasonally I will keep your existing landscape healthy and well ordered through pruning, planting, mulching, irrigation optimization, etc.
Landscape Design & Additions: For new landscapes or additions I am happy to work with clients from the ground up, planning beautiful and/or productive spaces to beautify your home drawing on extensive experience in permaculture and ecological design.
Seasonal Cleanups & Hauling: It doesn’t take long for spaces to become overgrown and intimidating. I am happy to restore order to such areas on a one time or seasonal basis.
Home Improvement & Small Construction: As an experienced builder I would love to help you realize that home improvement project you have been considering or daydreaming about. I am available to work with you on an extensive list of projects including but not limited to: raised garden beds, decks, fences, sheds, hardscape walls and patios, water features, chicken coops and pet enclosures, etc
My Background
Growing up in beautiful Northern California, I developed an early love of the natural world and a fascination with how we might design our homes and communities to live more harmoniously with nature.
This interest followed me through years of international work and travel and eventually led to a master's program in International Development and Emergency Practice in the UK, where I focused much of my studies on bridging the humanitarian sector with permaculture and ecological design, and their immense potential to improve human resilience in a destabilizing world.
Back in the US, I was drawn to Quail Springs Permaculture in Southern California where I completed apprenticeships in permaculture and natural building with an emphasis on humanitarian work. These experiences led to a period of work on related projects, assisting natural building courses and permaculture teacher training programs in East Africa.
Closer to home, I've developed my practical experience in residential and commercial landscaping through several years of work with Terra Nova Ecological Landscaping in Santa Cruz and Native Sun Gardens in the East Bay.
Now raising my son in the Santa Cruz Mountains, I'm excited to bring together these interests and experiences through Zeya's Garden & Home Care, helping my neighbors care for and cultivate the places they call home. Whether you are interested in simple garden upkeep, getting an overgrown mess under control, or bringing an exciting project to fruition, I’d love to hear from you.
